This walkthrough takes you from a brand-new account to books that are ready to keep — in about three minutes. Prefer to read? The written steps below mirror the video.

Written steps

  1. Choose where your business is registered. On the "Where is your business registered?" screen, select your country (the UAE is supported today, with more coming). This tells SnapLedger which statutory rules and tax treatment to apply.
  2. Open Accounting Alignment. This is the setup that fixes your starting point so SnapLedger can keep your books correctly from day one. You'll complete a few fields:
    • Opening balance — your balances at the start.
    • Accounting start date (D-Day) — the day your books begin.
    • VAT history — your prior VAT position.
    • TRN — your Tax Registration Number.
    • Last filed period ending — so SnapLedger knows where your filings left off.
  3. Upload your opening bank statements. If you're a new business with no prior filings, upload your opening statements — one per account, or a whole folder at once. SnapLedger parses them and posts the opening balances across all accounts in the background (results appear under Tools → Account Book Admin → Opening Balances within a few minutes).
  4. Connect your sources with SnapConnect. Link your email, payment processors, or crypto exchanges so future documents and activity flow in automatically — no manual uploads. (See the SnapConnect tutorial.)

Getting Accounting Alignment right once is what makes every later VAT return and report accurate — it's the five minutes that saves you hours at filing time.

What you learned

You created your account, set your accounting starting point, and imported your opening balances — your books now have a clean, correct foundation.
