Paper in, books out

In many businesses, the books are written up weeks after the month ends, from a box of paper — so the numbers arrive too late to steer by. In this lesson, Lina keeps Dunewood's books as the papers come in.

What you'll learn

  • Upload the month's papers in one go
  • Let SnapLedger read, file and match them
  • See customers' payments find their invoices

Step by step

  1. Upload the bills — Lina signs in to the workshop with her own login. The suppliers' bills for the materials go in together. SnapLedger reads each one, works out what it is, and files it.
  2. Each bill meets its payment — Each bill finds the bank payment that paid it, by itself. On the calendar, that payment now carries its bill.
  3. The stock meets its purchase — And here's the part nobody had to do. When a bill meets its payment, the goods Omar received meet their purchase too. Their cost moves out of expenses and into stock — without a single journal entry.
  4. The customer's money — The money for the job has started to arrive, too. Qamar Bay's advance has found its invoice in the showroom's books, and the showroom's payment to the workshop has found the workshop's invoice. Lina just checks.
  5. A line with no paper — When a bank line has no paper yet, Lina attaches the receipt to that line directly. One line, one press.
  6. The showroom — She does the same for the showroom — including the bill for six lounge chairs for the shop floor.

Next: keeping the stock true — the workshop's count, and the showroom's light way.
