Setting up books can feel like a company's job, not a freelancer's. Nadia designs brands for companies across Dubai, and her paperwork starts with one document: her freelance permit. In this lesson, that permit sets up her books.

What you'll learn

  • Upload your freelance permit
  • Check what Snappy read
  • Confirm your identity and your VAT registration

Step by step

  1. Your permit in — She uploads her permit, the same way she'd hand it to an accountant.
  2. What Snappy read — Snappy reads it for her: her name, the permit number, what kind of permit it is, and the work it covers.
  3. Your profile, filled in — Her freelancer profile is already filled in from the permit. There's nothing to type, only something to check.
  4. Your VAT registration — Nadia is registered for VAT, so she adds her tax registration number and confirms.
  5. What you owe, and when — From now on, SnapLedger knows what a UAE freelancer owes and when: her VAT return for the quarter that just ended, and the day it's due.

One permit in, and Nadia's books know who she is and what she owes. Next, her first invoice.
