Off the rail — a walk-in buys ready-made
1:21 · Captions: English, Arabic, French and Chinese.
Not every customer wants to wait a week. Some walk in before a wedding, pick a piece off the rail and leave. In most shops, that sale is cash in the drawer and nothing written down, so nobody knows what the rail still holds. In this lesson, a sale off the rail is in the books the day it happens.
What you'll learn
- Keep ready-made pieces in the shop's library, priced
- Sell one to a walk-in on an invoice that takes it off the shelf
- Get the cash into the books
Step by step
- The rail — Zari Lane keeps a rail of ready-made kurtas, kurtis and dupattas. Each piece is in the shop's library with its price, and the shelf knows how many are left.
- A walk-in's invoice — Ms Priya Nair walks in, tries a cream kurti and takes it. Zuhair invoices her as a private customer, and picks the kurti from the library. Its name and its price come with it.
- Off the shelf — He issues it, and that one press takes the kurti off the shelf and books what it cost. No separate stock entry, no tally at the end of the day. He saves her to the Customer Book, so her receipt can find her.
- Paid in cash — She pays cash and leaves with her kurti. Zuhair records the cash in the till's book, the way he did the deposit, and the sale reads Paid, for Sanjay too, wherever he is.
Next: the tailors' month. Their salaries, their piece work and the WPS file.
