Who runs HR — and does WPS apply?

In a small business, staff questions all end up with the owner — and so does the question nobody is sure about: do we have to pay through WPS? In this lesson, Yusuf hands HR to Lina, and answers that question once for each company.
What you'll learn
- Give someone the HR tools
- Decide WPS for each company
- Know mainland from free zone
Step by step
- HR for Lina — Lina already keeps the books for both companies. Yusuf opens her access in the workshop and turns on the HR tools. From now on she can take people on, run payroll and settle their leaving — without his login.
- The workshop: WPS — Next, the question that decides how payroll runs. The workshop has a mainland licence and is registered with the Ministry, so its salaries go through WPS. Yusuf says yes, and adds the two things the WPS file needs: the company's employer number, and the bank account salaries are paid from.
- The studio: no WPS — The design studio is in a free zone and isn't registered with the Ministry — no WPS. Most free zones work this way, but a few, like DMCC and JAFZA, now ask for it too. When SnapLedger reads a new company's trade licence, it answers this for you.
- Ready — That's all the setup. Each company now knows how it pays its people, and Lina has what she needs.
One person runs HR, and each company knows its payroll rules. Next: your team on one page.
